Photography is probably one of the most over looked career fields. Everyone enjoys looking at photos in a wide variety of styles, from movie stills of an upcoming film to landscape photos for wall décor, and action shots of their favorite athlete mid game. With today’s new and upcoming technology, accessing and sharing photos, both digital and printed, is becoming a piece of cake. There are also all kinds of resources available now to help photographers edit and revise their photos, such as Photoshop and Image Editor applications. Photos practically surround us everywhere we go, so there has to be someone to take the photos.

The World Photography Organisation recently featured a photographer by the name of Dina Litovsky, who uses the popular photo sharing app, Instagram, to display some of her work. The World Photography Organisation talked with her about how she decided to become a professional photographer and why she uses the popular app.

Dina Litovsky likes to use Instagram as a personal diary and she is having a lot of fun doing so. She likes to post things that are currently entertaining her thoughts, “whether it’s a new assignment, a smartphone moment, or a flashback to something.” Litovsky also mentions that Instagram is a nice way of keeping up with her favorite photographers and publications that she is interested in. By filling her photo feed with their work, she finds daily inspiration in creating her own work.

Dina Litovsky’s work has a common theme to it, which allows Instagram to be a suitable fit for her photos. Most of her work has to deal with social interactions, both near and far. She is attracted to this theme because of her background in psychology, from her original want to go through medical school. Litovsky enjoys photographing people to see how their behaviors can suggest “their hidden motivations and desires of the individuals.” With her psychology background, she finds human interactions fascinating and enjoys capturing them in a photo that will last forever.

Dina Litovsky is only one of many photographers who use Instagram as a platform for sharing their photos. There are countless professional and amateur photography accounts on the popular photo app, which allows millions of users to be able to “like” photos and follow their favorite photographers. I know from talking with fellow classmates and friends, the professional photographers that have decided to use Instagram to share their photos, have inspired them in numerous ways, through new ideas to incorporate into their own work, or camera techniques to try when photographing a certain type of image, be it motion or nature photography. Instagram has definitely changed the game when in comes to the photography industry.
